For the last few years, my friends at uni have done a “vegan week”, which is exactly as it sounds. For one week at the start of the year, we go exclusively vegan. It started out as a challenge to one particular member of our friend group, and slowly everybody joined in. This year, I decided to join in as well and I’ve had a lot of fun doing so! I know it’s hardly on a Veganuary scale, which I wish I had taken part in now, but it’s definitely opened my eyes a lot more to eating vegan.
For one, it’s a lot easier than I thought it would be. For things like cheese and meat, there are such a selection of alternatives out there to choose from. Who’d have thought that you’d be able to find vegan squirty whipped cream? But you can! I don’t eat meat every day, anyway, but I’ve realised I do have a lot more dairy than I realised. Overall, it was a lot of fun having an excuse to experiment more with my cooking! And I’ve decided to make an effort to incorporate more vegan meals into my diet, and cut down on my dairy intake.
